Health and Social Care volunteer

1.MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE

To work in collaboration with NHS volunteer managers to raise the profile of volunteering in NHS Trusts by developing 6 stories for in-house publications

2.POSITION IN ORGANISATION

Reports To:Health and Social Care Marketing Officer

3.DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1.Produce case studies highlighting the value volunteers add to NHS Trusts

Contact Volunteer Managers to identify appropriate stories for case studies

Liaise with Trusts communication teams to find out about opportunities within newsletters, publications and intranet pages for stories

Develop and sustain good working relationships with volunteer managers and media contacts

Write case studies

Work closely with Health and Social Care Marketing Officer

4.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Work to administration and communication protocols efficiently to ensure that organisational systems and procedures are implemented.

Abide by all organisational policies, codes of conduct and practice.

Support diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace.

5.HOURS AND EXPENSES

Ideally 1 day per week, with a minimum commitment of 3 months. Volunteering England will pay for travel expenses and a contribution towards lunch expenses (£5.00 for 7 hours), as long as tickets and receipts are provided.

6.INDUCTION AND TRAINING

Volunteer will receive a thorough induction into Volunteering England and

his/her own area of work. Training will be provided as appropriate.

This person specification sets out the essential qualities we are seeking for this voluntary position.

CRITERIA

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in written form

Ability to work well as part of a team but to take individual decisions when necessary

Ability to balance and effectively prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines

Administrative and record keeping skills

Willingness to work as part of a team with the minimum of supervision

Up to date IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office, ability to use Word, e-mail, internet

EXPERIENCE

Experience of writing case studies and placing stories in internal newsletters and publications

KNOWLEDGE

(Including any specific qualification or trainingrequirements)

GCSE grade C or above English

Understanding of the health and social care sector

Understanding of volunteering and how it contributes to health and social care
