Volunteering England appoints new Assistant Director, Business Development

Volunteering England, the national development agency for volunteers, has appointed Dave Conroy as Assistant Director, Business Development. Dave starts his new job on 2 January 2007, and he will be responsible for supporting all areas of income generation and business improvement.

Dave has worked in the volunteering sector since graduating in 1984, first as a volunteer and then in his first paid role as Volunteers Liaison Worker at Loughborough Volunteer Centre. In 1987 he moved to Loughborough Students’ Union to set up a new Community Action Group, which became one of the largest and most respected in the country.

Between 1992 and 1994 Dave undertook a Diploma and Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of York, prior to working as a children and families social worker in Selby, North Yorkshire. In May 1995 he moved to London to set up CHANCE UK, spending the next five years establishing and building the organisation and was Chair of Islington Volunteer Centre from 1993-94.

Since then Dave has undertaken many consultancy placements with both charitable and commercial organisations, until taking on the challenging role of Volunteering Hub Implementation Manager with Volunteering England in October 2005.

Commenting on his appointment, Dave said: “I am really pleased to take on this new post at what is an exciting and challenging time for Volunteering England and the sector as a whole. I intend working to ensure that the building blocks of the organisation enable our committed staff to deliver their very best, whilst also contributing a strong focus on innovation, effectiveness and sustainability for the ultimate benefit of all those organisations that we support.”
