Volunteering England calls for sustainable funding on International Volunteer Day

Justin Davis Smith, Acting Chief Executive of Volunteering England (VE), said:

“Volunteering England welcomes the opportunity to recognise volunteers across the world this UN International Day of the Volunteer. Volunteering is a powerful force for change in society and we are proud to be part of a global movement to enable more people to experience the benefits of volunteering, both to themselves and their communities. Looking forward to 2008, we hope to build on the innovative and inspiring work carried out by volunteers this year, and will continue to urge Government to provide sustainable funding for the essential infrastructure that enables volunteers to make a difference to their communities, recognising that volunteering is freely given but not cost free.”
