15 January 2007
For immediate release
Volunteering England is to relocate its existing split-site operations in Birmingham and London to a single site in London. This decision has been taken with the aim of bringing about a more unified corporate identity, to help generate better internal communication and cross-team working, and to save on office costs and associated time costs by working on the two sites. It is projected that the Birmingham office will be closed for operational purposes on 31 March 2007.
As detailed above, savings are a significant part of the operation, but the move is not purely about cost-cutting. It is rather about creating a unified team to ensure that VE is providing the best possible service to volunteer centres and volunteer involving organisations.
All staff working at the Birmingham Office will have the option to relocate, with a compensation package, or take voluntary redundancy. At this stage, the extent of voluntary redundancies is not known, but VE can confirm there will be no involuntary redundancies.
