One day conference on Tuesday 27th January 2009 will explore the challenges and opportunities around getting the most out of ESV schemes in the current economic climate
Time: 9.30 a.m - 4.15 p.mPlace: Barbican Conference Centre, London
A one day conference on employer supported volunteering will address the new challenges for employers, employees and their community partners.
Its theme is matchmaking and how the skills agenda can be linked to an organisation’s commitment to employer supported volunteering. Organised by Volunteering England, the national development agency for volunteering, and supported by City Action and Business in the Community, the conference is aimed at companies, the public sector and charities.
“For employers, supporting volunteering among their employees can help develop skills that can be transferred back into the workplace as well as to make a practical demonstration of their commitment to the community. Yet volunteering is not reflected in most of employees’ personal development plans or employers’ key performance indicators,” said Cathy McBain, head of ESV at Volunteering England.
“This conference will share experience and knowledge on how employers from the private and public sectors are developing their ESV programmes to reflect and help achieve their human resources objectives.
“We will also be examining key issues, such as the impact of the current financial climate for employer supported volunteering across the voluntary, community, private and public sectors.”
A number of top level speakers will be leading key debates and workshops during the day and looking at how leading employers and their partners are developing skills and motivating people through their employer supported volunteering – and measuring the difference.
Some of the key speakers will include:
- Eoghan Mackie, Chief Executive, Challenges Worldwide
- Sarah Shillito, Foundations Employee Engagement Manager, Vodafone
- Susan Lacey, Learning & Development Manager, City of London Corporation
- Lesley Nicholls, Employee Volunteering Director, CSV
- Mike Tyler, Director, Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership
- Udeni Salmon, Head of Volunteer Services, Leonard Cheshire Disability.
“Employer supported volunteering has long been considered a respected approach to developing employee skills while ‘giving something back’,” Cathy Mc Bain added. “In the current economic climate, the significance of volunteering is even more relevant, although many businesses have still not integrated volunteering into their human resources structure.”
The closing date for delegate bookings is 16 January 2009.
