Example Volunteer Agreement

English Gymnastics have developed a short and clear agreement to use with their volunteers.

Kindly contributed by and copyright to English Gymnastics

Please note: please bear in mind that this volunteer agreement has been created for a specific organisation in a specific context, and should therefore be used as a guide rather than adopted wholesale. For further information, please visit our 'top tips on using the Good Practice Bank'.

The things we particularly like are:

1. The broad range of areas covered in a one page document. The agreement covers expenses, support, recognition, volunteer involvement, insurance and more. These elements would all be covered in more depth in a volunteer policy, so the volunteer agreement just offers a helpful and more personalised summary.

2. The gentle and informal tone used in the agreement. For example, rather than asking volunteers to give notice, it tactfully asks a volunteer to let their coordinator know 'if s/he wishes to change the nature of their contribution'.
