'That little bit of help'
This paper is based on the findings of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Older People’s Inquiry. It looks at the provision of low-level support for older people, summed up as 'that little bit of help’.
The inquiry highlights how older people value support which enables them to live in their own homes; for example, help with cleaning, DIY, gardening, care of pets, chiropody, transport and befriending.
This paper features a "Baker's Dozen" of services which demonstrate good practice in serving the needs of older people. At least half of the examples involve or are provided by volunteers.
