Overview

As we move towards 2012, everyone involved in sport and volunteering could benefit from new perspectives on working with volunteers. Millions of sport volunteers are involved every week in supporting others to participate and compete in sports activities. Sport volunteering also has wider potential to tackle social issues such as crime, social inclusion, and improving health.

Many sport organisations recognise their coaches, treasurers and helpers as valuable assets but don't always see them as 'volunteers'. Linking sport volunteering with resources by other types of voluntary groups and charities can introduce sport to new ways of working and a wider pool of volunteers.

This 'sport' section of the Good Practice Bank contains articles, examples and links to help you improve the quantity and quality of sport volunteers. Many of the core themes in the Good Practice Bank will also be relevant, as will some of the other specialist themes.

Volunteering England also runs a project designed to get sport and volunteering infrastructure working more closely together to improve volunteer management. Find out more by visiting VE's Volunteering in Sport project webpages

Share your experiences!

The Good Practice Bank is growing steadily as more information is added to it. An important feature of the Bank is allowing users to share their documents with other volunteering organisations. We are particularly interested in receiving example policies or documents that you are happy to share with others. If we use your contribution, you could win a book on volunteering from our regular prize draw.
