Why is Volunteering England holding this debate?
People in the voluntary and community sector have been heatedly discussing whether tickets, t-shirts and vouchers are suitable recruitment tools for volunteers. Discussions have recently been reignited by RockCorps’ use of concert tickets to entice young people to contribute time to their local communities. With no other way of obtaining the tickets – is this really volunteering or just a payment for four hours work? Should these ‘treats’ be offered to some, when others are getting nothing?
We will be hosting a meaty debate and we want you to join us. Can concert tickets and vouchers be classed as incentives? Do you think incentives are a suitable way of attracting people to volunteering? Could freebies like t-shirts really alter the spirit of volunteering for good? Let's hear from you.
