External awards schemes

Entering your programme for an award, whether a local, industry or a national award, can be very time consuming. However, if you are a winner, this can give your programme and your volunteers a welcome boost. It could also mean more funds for your programme and more volunteers eager to join in!

Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence

Established in 1996, BITC's Awards for Excellence recognise the best examples of responsible business behaviour by companies. The Big Tick is awarded to companies that are able to demonstrate a high standard of excellence in the way they organise and integrate their responsible business practices, and can show a positive impact both on society and on the business. The Big Tick was introduced in 1998 and there have been 503 recipients of this prestigious endorsement mark.

Eighteen award categories cover areas such as neighbourhood renewal, rural action, healthy communities, environmental impact, diversity, marketplace innovation, and the impact on society awards for large and small employers.

Further details and profiles and case studies of winners can be found at www.bitc.org.uk

Dragon Awards

The Lord Mayor’s prestigious Dragon Awards celebrate annually the contribution made by London companies towards the social and economic regeneration of their local communities. Now in their 19th year, the awards have seen the quality of submissions rise and rise as community involvement becomes an ever-more important part of business culture in the UK.

There are six awards categories, five for businesses and one for an individual Volunteer of the Year. Business may nominate themselves in any of their five categories, or they may be nominated by a school, charity or community-based organisation. Nominations for the Volunteer of the Year award should come from schools, charities or community-based organisations only.
