Sheffield West Primary Care Trust recognises the value of volunteering as an activity which helps others, creates stronger communities and contributes positively to all our lives, and supports its employees in their volunteering activities.
The Trust acknowledges that many employees volunteer already and this is a valuable parallel to their paid employment, and it is committed to supporting employees who volunteer in their own time. The Trust grants 20 hours per year paid time off work (pro rata) for volunteering, and does not limit what employees can do as long as it is for a recognised agency, local or international.
Volunteering is viewed as a positive activity, contributing to lifelong learning, helping to improve motivation, developing skills such as communication, problem solving, change management and innovation, and enabling employees to develop skills in a way not necessarily possible at work, such as chairing a management commi9ttee.
Volunteering is also considered as a means of team development through practical tasks, ad as a great way to engage with the local community.
