Chair

The Chair of the North East regional EVDC is Kelvin Rushworth.

Kelvin Rushworth of Seahouses, is part-time Administrator of Berwick Voluntary Forum and the voluntary Developments Adviser of Volunteer Centre North Northumberland.

In his twenties, Kelvin worked as a teacher, a senior manager in educational publishing and a middle manager (specialising in community involvement and community development) in statutory health and social care.

Subsequently, for twenty five years, he was the Assistant Director of the mental health charity Mind (with responsibility for the North East and Cumbria) and Acting Assistant Director for differing periods of South East Mind and North West Mind.

For most of his adult life, he has been a member, secretary, trustee or chair of numerous voluntary organisations and community groups at local, regional and national levels. His international development work, primarily in the mental health field, included projects in Abu Dhabi, Egypt, Eire, Finland, Israel, Poland and Sri Lanka.

In January 2001, during the nationwide ‘Foot and Mouth Disease Crisis’ he was County Development Worker for RuralMinds and, subsequently, Berwick Development Worker for North Northumberland Voluntary Action.

Currently, he is honorary joint Chief Executive of Marakanda (an educational charity concerned with Uzbekistan), Seahouses Leader with the Walking Your Way to Health Initiative and President of the Rotary Club of Seahouses and District. He is an honorary Life Member of Mind, the World Federation for Mental Health and the Royal Agricultural Society of England.
