I'd like to volunteer in a health or social care setting - how do I go about it?
Volunteering England doesn't directly place volunteers, so if you want to volunteer in health and social care settings you will need to approach individual organisations. There are several ways of doing this which include
approaching your local NHS Trust and asking for the Voluntary Services Manager
approaching your local Volunteer Centre (details available on volunteer centre finder on the Volunteer England home page), who will know of local volunteering opportunities, including health and social care
searching the do-it website at www.do-it.org.uk where you can search by postcode and type of volunteering role
please be aware that for any form of health and social care volunteering you will have to provide references and may have to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check, so allow some time for this before you start volunteering
As a health or social care professional I'd like to involve volunteers in my area of work - how do I do this?
First of all check if your organisation has a Voluntary Services Manager or Volunteer Co-ordinator. They will help you think through appropriate roles for volunteers, and will have organisational policies and systems for recruiting and supporting volunteers. If there is no one within your own organisation then try approaching your local Volunteer Centre http://www.volunteering.org.uk/finder who will be able to help you think through what this will involve and how to recruit and manage volunteers
I live somewhere else and would like to come and volunteer in the UK
