Key concerns

Volunteers who responded to the ‘volunteering for mental health survey told us a lot about the concerns they had that affected their experience of volunteering. The information they provided included the following points:
  • They might not have the skills or confidence to do the job
  • They were concerned about people’s lack of awareness of mental health issues
  • They worried about other people’s opinions of their mental health issues
  • They were affected by medication and the side effects of drugs
  • They lacked information and advice about how benefits might be affected
  • They were worried about how to afford bus fares, travel costs, lunches, etc.
