North East: the birthplace of Volunteer Centres and Councils for Voluntary Service working with sport.
Since 2003 there has been partnership working between sport and the wider third sector to improve volunteering and club development.
Durham
The Volunteer Centre at Teasdale and Wear Valley, "2D" has been working with the local authority, Wear Valley, to implement a sport volunteering project. The project has now been located inside the local authority. Find out more here and have a look at their new film footage.
The rest of the region
More recently, the rest of the region has heard about this work in Durham at a region-wide meeting where national governing bodies, sports partnerships, local authorities, Volunteer Centres, councils for voluntary services and universities came together to discuss how they too could work together.
