- Do you think sport volunteering is a major part of overall volunteering?
- Do you want the voice of sport to be heard right across government?
- Do you network with organisations outside of sport?
- Would you value learning from other types of organisation?
If you are a national organisation you can do all of these things by representing sport at the England Volunteering Development Council (EVDC).
The EVDC is looking for more sport organisations to represent sport.
Why you should get involved in the EVDC?
Because it is the only high level, volunteering-wide council of national organisations who have led on initiatives like the Commission on the Future of Volunteering. The Commission is chaired by Gordon Brown's own volunteering champion: Baroness Julia Neuberger. By joining EVDC you will be getting sport's voice, and your organisation into a wider nfluencing circle. Sport England already has a place, as do a number of national governing bodies.
If your organisation lobbies government, and you passionately believe that sport is a major part of overall volunteering, then the EVDC is the place to influence wider agendas including:
- Government policy
- The actioning of the recommendations from the Commission on the Future of Volunteering and
Sport is part of the third sector, or the wider voluntary sector. This sector is traditionally seen as areas such as health, social care and other nationally known charities. If these organisations are funded by government, they are often funded by departments other than Culture Media and Sport. Therefore, sport and the rest of the third sector has traditionally grown up slightly apart.
With major investigations into volunteering such as the Commission on the Future of Volunteering, there is a growing recognition that the voice of sport needs to be heard at the volunteering-wide tables.
