How can you get involved?

SVN Member

To become a member of the Student Volunteer Network you just need to sign up to the online network. Join the network http://svnetwork.ning.com/ and you will then have contact with all other members around the country.

Being a member of the mailbase will enable you to;

  • Find out about volunteering opportunities
  • Learn from each other on what works and doesn’t in setting up volunteering projects through online discussions and meetings.
  • Hear about Student Volunteering events such as our National Student Volunteering Conference
  • Receive and contribute towards a monthly newsletter with updates about national volunteering practice, blogs and case studies of student volunteering projects and a calendar of volunteering events.

As a member of the SVN you will have the opportunity to attend regional meetings to meet with other student volunteers from your region and discuss volunteer experiences, ideas etc. You can also take part in volunteering events around your region and national events in Student Volunteering Week.

‘It’s miles better than facebook!!! Look it’s colourful and shiny!!’

‘A fab way to share experiences etc and offer support to others’

 Student Volunteering project

SVN Regional Co-ordinator

For practical purposes we have subdivided England into 7 regions; London, South East, South West, Yorks and Humber, West Midlands, North West and North East.

We are looking for two SVN Regional Co-ordinators per region who will be responsible for organising meetings within their designated region.

As a regional coordinator you will be responsible for bringing students together from different institutions and making the voice of student volunteers heard across your region.

The network is very flexible and each region can take ownership of events and activities taking place in their regions. The role of Regional Co-ordinator is also flexible, but will generally involve;

  • Organising and attending one regional meeting per year
  • Organising regional volunteering events
  • Networking and linking students across different institutions

Training and support will be given by the SV Team throughout your role as regional coordinator. We always welcome new ideas for extra training or events you think the SVN might need and will do out utmost to provide you with the support you need.

SVN Student Champion

An SV Team Champion is someone who promotes the SVN in their institution or region.

Tasks include;

  • Promoting the SVN at specific events such as, fresher’s fairs or volunteering fairs
  • Be a point of contact for the regional co-ordinators
  • Help promote the national angle of volunteering on behalf of the SV Team

The SV Team will provide the Champions with all the resources they need and will always be available for any help or support.

Always remember this network is for you and we are constantly looking for new ways to improve it, to insure it is how you want it to be. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any suggestions or questions or are interested in joining the network.
