Freedom Bill announcement on safeguarding

"Volunteering England welcomes the broad proposals to revise the safeguarding systems announced as part of the Freedom Bill. The portability of criminal records checks will be widely seen as helpful by volunteers and volunteering organisations. The lower level of involvement for people and roles will also reduce a significant barrier to volunteering."

"Today's announcement is beneficial for the volunteering movement, but the consultations and detailed work on implementation will be all-important, and we look forward to contributing to that process. In particular, much will depend on how the legislation and regulations set a framework within which volunteering organisations can organise supervision and risk assessment on behalf of volunteers and of the children and vulnerable adults they are involved with."
