Olympic and Paralympic Games

As well as being a massive international sporting event, the London 2012Games will give rise to huge numbers of celebrations, cultural and community events and sports competitions, nationally and locally. The Games will be attracting millions of people, and cities and communities across the country will be looking to welcome visitors.

There will be countless ways of getting involved in the Games and in everything inspired by the Games. The running of the Games, the venues and the Torch Relay will require nearly 70,000 volunteers. Several times that number of people will be asked to help out in a wide range of activities including welcoming visitors at airports and tourist sites; working with visiting teams in their training camps; providing back-up for police services; running schools sports, and serving tea at street parties.

Weymouth is hosting the sailing, and Eton Dorney will be the venue for Rowing, Paralympic Rowing and Canoe Sprint events.
