What are you studying? Energy and Sustainability (Architecture)

I am interested in interior design, and other things related to the arts. Before I was a student studying was the most important thing to me. However, as a student I have volunteered by helping to decorate a pavilion.

What are you studying? History

I volunteer on OXFAM GB's National Youth Board, advising them on how to make their campaigns relevant to students and young people and advising them on the best ways to attract students. As well as this national work I also enjoy volunteering in more normal ways – I led a community development expedition to Sri Lanka for 10 weeks in my first year and volunteer at Durham's Castle and Cathedral World Heritage Site.

What are you studying?

 Law (LLB).
Previously at Christ Church College at The University of Kent at Canterbury

I first started volunteering 31 years ago when I was a student at Alton Sixth Form College in Hampshire. In the past as a student I volunteered because I wanted to help people and it was rewarding to help others. My motivations as an adult for volunteering have related to causes close to my heart. I volunteered as a PR person for Girlguiding UK, and as a Rainbow pack unit helper as my daughters were involved with the Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.

What are you studying? Politics PhD

During my undergraduate degree I was actively engaged in the Student’s Union as a faculty rep and as president of two student societies (Philosophy Society and the Light Operatic Society). During my MSc year, I was a project leader for READ International at Southampton University. From the start of my PhD I have been involved in numerous project as a volunteer: I continued to run the Light Operatic Society, and organised a ‘citizenship day’ for local year 10 pupils. Currently I am the chair of the Student Impact Committee, a national committee of student volunteers whose primary objective, this year, is to organise the national student volunteering conference: IMPACT 2012.

What are you studying? BA Journalism, single honours

As a student I have volunteered in a variety of roles within student media, as a students’ union councillor, a programme representative for my course and as a welcome representative for new students during Welcome Week 2011. I volunteer both to improve my CV and skills, and to help others. I have learnt a lot about myself, and about how other people around me are feeling and difficulties they might have. It also made me realise how lucky I am to have been born into a strong and supportive family that has always encouraged me to be my best no matter what.
