EVM Training

The EVM programme consists of classroom-based and eLearning training modules, as well as an array of resources. Either the full 60 hours of training can be followed to gain an endorsed award or individual elements can be completed, depending on the learners’ needs. Knowledge can also be topped-up through using a combination of the good-practice bank, information sheets, FAQs and various publications

A national awarding body will accredit the 60-hour training programme. The course is divided into four modules, which are based on a national training and development needs analysis of managers of volunteers:

Managing Yourself (15 hours)
Helping managers of volunteers with their self-development by:

  • teaching managers of volunteers how to take charge of their own continuous professional development
  • teaching leadership skills
  • promoting SMARTer, not harder, working
  • teaching the skills of delegation
  • teaching managers of volunteers how to influence others.

Managing People (20 hours)
Focusing on the particular people management skills that are involved in managing volunteers, such as:

  • planning and organising
  • developing skills and talent
  • supporting, coaching, training and motivating
  • managing challenges
  • building teams
  • working creatively.

Managing in the Community (10 hours)
Exploring the role of volunteering in the wider community, including:

  • strategically planning volunteer involvement
  • considering the local environment and local community
  • considering issues of diversity and rurality
  • achieving best practice through investing in volunteers/investing in volunteers for employers.

Managing Resources (15 hours)
Exploring the legal and financial aspects of managing volunteering, including:

  • measuring and demonstrating the impact of the work of volunteers
  • budgeting for volunteer involvement
  • funding volunteering
  • managing risk
  • looking at insurance considerations
  • considering volunteers and the law.

The programme aims to bring together opportunities that are not available elsewhere in the sector into a flexible programme, which can be delivered in a variety of ways to meet individual learning styles and circumstances.
