Training Provider Case Studies

Volunteer Centre Warrington were the first Volunteer Centre to deliver the EVM programme as a Licensed Training Provider

The Volunteer Centre had already been involved in the development of the Excellence in Volunteer Management (EVM) programme; so becoming a Licensed Training Provider seemed a natural next step. They considered the potential flexibility of the programme a definite plus point as was the opportunity to deliver an endorsed award through the Institute if Leadership and Management (ILM).

Since the introduction of EVM this Volunteer Centre has reached a wider audience which has in turn enabled them to generate income from the training that they deliver.

Sue Jones, Training Project Manager describes their experience of the assessment and licensing process as “reasonably straight forward, Volunteer Centre Warrington was already delivering training programmes and were already an OCN approved centre”.

For other organisations considering becoming a licensed training provider Volunteer Centre Warrington recommend that they involve an experienced trainer to deliver the programme and are both willing and able to invest the time into preparing sessions and thinking about how they want to deliver EVM if they want to provide a quality experience for learners.

Volunteer Centre Chiltern and South Bucks became a Licensed Training Provider with EVM to enable them to provide a high standard of training to their local voluntary sector. They deliver EVM across their local area with in conjunction with two other Volunteer Centres.

Joy Johns, Volunteer Centre Manager says of EVM “ it was particularly attractive that this was a well researched programme that would continue to be supported, and that we had the flexibility to customise it as needed for local delivery.” “I think it is important that Volunteering England is supporting this national programme to help raise standards in volunteer management”

Still a relatively new to EVM this Volunteer Centre is still in the process of rolling out EVM in their area and recently they have been conducting a county wide user survey to assist them with developing priorities. To pass assessment they produced a portfolio outlining their background and the processes under which the three Volunteer Centres would work together.Although it did take quite a bit of time to draw all the information together, it gave them a chance to think through the issues that might arise which was valuable.
