EYV 2011 in Europe

Volunteer commitments

The EYV 2011 Alliance looked to increase the recognition of the contribution of volunteers across Europe. Their website allowed organisations and individuals to sign up online and commit to volunteer for a specific number of hours during 2011. Nearly 2 million hours were commited!

The EYV 2011 Alliance also developed the Policy Agenda for Volunteering in Europe (P.A.V.E) which provides recommendations for a more efficient and effective European policy framework to support and promote volunteers, volunteering, volunteer-involving organisations and their partners.

EYV 2011 Tour

The EYV 2011 Tour visited Europe's 27 capital cities in 2011. The aim of the Tour was to bring Europe closer to volunteers and promote volunteering throughout the European Union. The Tour lasted around a week in each Member State and provided volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations with an opportunity to:

  • Exhibit their work
  • Meet each other
  • Share their concern with citizens and convey their energy and enthusiasm
  • Discuss key issues for the future of volunteers.

Tour in London

The Tour was in London from 28 October until 3 November 2011. Organisations were invited to host stands to promote their work or deliver workshops, conferences, speaking events, practical activities or demonstrations.

Relay journalists

27 reporters were selected, one from each European country, to visit two volunteer-involving organisations in an EU country other than their own.

The relay team highlighted the diversity of volunteering across Europe through audio, video and written reportsstraight from the field in all of the 27 EU Member States.
