About the Volunteer Management Portal
Do you work with volunteers as part of a voluntary, paid, part time or full time role in the community and voluntary, private or public sector? If the answer is yes, then this website is for you!
So what is the Volunteer Management Portal?
As England’s volunteering development agency, Volunteering England understands the importance of good volunteer management. We believe that good volunteer management comes, not only from experience, but also from having access to relevant support, training and development opportunities.
We know that there are loads of fantastic resources out there for people who work with volunteers, but that they can sometimes be difficult to find. We wanted to make it easier to access these resources by developing one central place to find them…
So we created the Volunteer Management Portal! The Portal is a website for anyone who works with volunteers and within the profession of volunteer management. You can use it to search for support, training and development resources to help you develop your skills, improve your volunteer programme and work more effectively with volunteers.
What’s on the Portal?
The idea of the Portal is to make it easier for you to access information on specific types of resources that can help you in your role.
We’ve included information on resources which fit into 7 different support categories:
- Training providers
- Consultants
- Publications, resources and networks
- Peer-support
- Organisations providing organisational health checks
- Organisations providing direct services
- Organisations providing information, advice and guidance.
So whether you’re looking for volunteer management training in your area, advice from a local Volunteer Centre, a book on involving young people in volunteering, a volunteer manager’s network or a room to train your volunteers in, this is the place to start!
How do I find resources?
You can search the Volunteer Management Portal in 3 easy ways:
The search engine - type in a keyword or phrase that describes what you are looking for and the most relevant information will be displayed in the search results box next to the search engine.
Search by support needs - you can also search according to your support needs. Simply click the type of support category that best describes what you are looking for, and information on resources in that category will be displayed in the search results box.
The Training Provider Map –click on your region to view all of the training providers in your local area.
What do I do when I’ve found what I’m looking for?
The Volunteer Management Portal is a sign-posting website, so once you’ve found a resource that interests you, you’ll need to get in touch with the relevant organisation directly in order to find out more.
What if I can’t find what I’m looking for?
The Volunteer Management Portal currently sign-posts to around 1500 support, training and development opportunities, but we are sure there are more out there! If you can’t find what you are looking for, please get in touch. We can’t promise we’ll know where to find what you need but we can certainly try.
Also, if you know of resources that don’t appear to be featured on the Portal, please contact us. The more information we can add, the greater the value the Portal will be for everyone working with volunteers.
