Are you a student?

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way to make a difference to your community and to express your values, whilst enhancing your personal and professional development.

Through involvement with community-based learning programmes and other initiatives, students can apply their learning to new contexts. Volunteering can also improve employability by developing skills that employers value.

Volunteering can give greater confidence and self-esteem by providing opportunities for students to have a fuller university experience that brings them into contact with different people in challenging and rewarding situations.

Getting started

A good starting point is to speak to your college or university’s volunteering service. Usually based within your Careers Service, students' union or student support service, your volunteer co-ordinator should be able to provide you with details of volunteering positions within the institution, stduents' union and local community. They can also give you useful tips about setting up projects, put you in contact with community groups and other student volunteers, and inform you of other student-led projects.

Your local Volunteer Centre will also be able to give you guidance on volunteering opportunities on your area.
